Pursuant to an act of legislature proposed by the Board of Commissioners to the General Assembly, Governor Sonny Perdue signed into law the creation of the new County-Municipal Board of Elections and Registration which abolishes and replaces the existing Board of Elections.

Under the new law, the Board will be comprised of two appointees of the County and one from each of the three cities, for a total of 5 members. At the June 9th, 2009 meeting of the Board of Commissioners, the board appointed its two seats on the board; Terri Evans, who currently serves on the Board of Elections; and Jackson resident Jim Trenton. They will take their seats on the new board July 1, 2009. Appointees from Flovilla, Jackson and Jenkinsburg will be appointed at upcoming meetings of those City Councils. The new Board will appoint a Director of Elections & Registration who will manage the day-to-day activities of the Elections Office.
